Electronic Analog Exposure Display

Since I'm really new to Nikon can anyone tell me in layman's terms what this item is trying to tell me? With my compulsive attitude this is driving me crazy. I know it's suppose to tell me if my pictures will be over/under exposed but how am I suppose to compensate for this. This is my second day with my new camera so I have only played with P & A modes. So much to learn my head hurts. Thanks in advance.

The best way to judge the exposure is by looking at the histogram. It does take a little skill to learn how. The best article I've read on how to read the histogram is by "Digital Darrell". Check his site at www.planetnikon.com
