Hi:
I just received an friend invitation from Jen Thomas who I gather is a member to purchase a 'Google Home Business Kit'.
I did a search on the internet which indicated that this is a scam and something to be avoided.
There are a number of ar...
I would get a Nikon 12 - 24mm. It would be fine for landscapes. I wouldn't worry so much about portraits. You would be better just to get a separate lens for portraits like the Nikon like the 35mm f1.8 or use your existing super lens.
I think you...
Hi Lea:
I was looking at my Pentax ist DS SLR which I have abandoned for the D300. At the time I felt a bit guilty about buying a new camera when I had quite a nice older camera. Now when I look at it though I realize just how much better the D30...
Well Grant I do agree with you whole heartedly. But it seems it's the same whether photography related or computer related or I Pod related/cell phones.. Technology is advancing so quickly that we can't possibly keep up without taking out a second...
Hi:
I don't want to be negative but I wonder whether a forum which is based on a specific model like the D300 is viable. It does seem very quiet in here although I see people still are posting pictures which is great.
The trouble with digital ca...
Really you don't give enough information, a backup SLR is quite different to a point n shoot. If you want just a point n shoot practically any canon compact would do the job. I would rule out expensive cameras like the Panasonic TZ series as I thi...
I bought this from Hong Kong on ebay brand new with a Nikon world wide warranty for $640AUD which is pretty good for Australia where we get ripped off. I got it three days later by fedex delivered to my door.
I was concerned about the size of thi...
Mmm. I thought the 900 was a bit of a monster but when I saw it in the flesh at the shop, well, yes, it is big but then the D300 plus any sort of swivel flash is hardly compact so I thought that the size probably isn't a factor really. Not much an...
I have both a 600 and 800. Don't see much difference in the field. Both can seem underpowered. The 900 has less power than the 800 but it has a better menu system which would be nice in the field. The 600 is good enough, lighter, cheaper for most....
Hi guys
Just joined this forum..I have upgraded in last 6 weeks to digital photography... I agree with comment that the best available flash is the SB900 and combined with the R1 macrokit and the camara's built in flash certainly adds a further di...
Grant, thanks for that tip. I actually kept the Active D-lighting on as a default and wondered why continuous shooting was slow. I almost went out to buy the hand grip to speed things up. Tips like these are what make a site like this so helpful. Thanks again- Paul
nice shots, grant!
I'm getting mine this week, and i have to put in some hard work learning to use the gear .... well, it'll be worth it, though.

About Me:
Casual photographer but love taking photos, especially of people and pets. My dog Ralph gives endless photo opportunities.
I am a software developer and photography is a break with the technical drudgery and pressure of deadlines. It is also a nice way to zen out and see the beauty in not only natural landscapes but just about anything you can imagine. I like people and pets as it is challenging and again, seeing the beauty in living things and capturing it in a photo is a real pleasure.
Gear
Ordinary old D300 with 18 - 200 zoom. I also have a Pentax film MZ5N and a Pentax ist DS digital SLR.
