Shoot in RAW and then use "Capture NX2" to convert your files to whatever works best. When I first got my D300, I'd play with all the various camera settings and end up having to reset to defaults. Once I had become familiar with NX2 ( which I now...
I had used the Standard picture control when I had the D300, and continued to use the same on the D90 for a while.
I then "discovered" that the factory-installed PC's tend to blow out colors easily, especially reds.
I now use a modified copy of ...
For those of you who have been using the D300 for awhile. Which picture control setting do you use for typical shots to get the best results: standard, Neutral, or Vivid?
Actually almost all of my flower shots are taken here at home. I have MS, so I can't get around the way I used to. Instead I bought a light box ( 28" ) that came with two lights, and the two lamp stands that are highly moveable. Sometimes I can get out to the Denver Botanic Gardens to capture some shots. My wife is nice enough to bring home some flower plants and some time cut flowers. Either way it keeps me busy.
For most of my years, I was Coordinator of Adult Education at a local university. For financial reasons they did away with the program after 30 years. For the last three years I have worked as Associate Registrar. These last three years have been the longest of my career. I used to love my job but can no longer say that so the time has come to move on. I am expecting my first grandchild in July so I will be free to babysit for her when my daughter returns to work as a PA. The State is facing major cuts and lay offs so they want to first offer a retirement package to get those of us with the age to go first before they have to turn to lay offs to down size. I will gladly help save someones job.
It seems quite unfair that you can't get paid to ride your Harley and take photos ... it seems reasonable to me.
I have used Lightroom ... actually own it, but am not yet very skilled with it. Since getting it my life took a few detours and I just have not found the time to play with it much. Hopefully when I retire ...hopefully soon.
I looked over your vacation pictures and was quite impressed with the quality, variety and number of photos. What a fabulous opportunity ... a photography buff's dream come true. You did not lack for subjects, that is for sure. What a pity that it was so overcast. Thanks for inviting me to view them. I can't imagine uploading all those photos. You must be a very patient man. Nice work!

I've never owned a Tokina and my widest lens is with my Nikon 18-200mm. I like being able to shoot at the 18mm end and would love even wider capabilities. I would suggest doing some research on the lens and read actual user comments at places like B&H and Adorama. I always find those helpful and for the most part accurate.
For the record, overall, I don't love the 18-200mm lens. It could be better and the lens creep is annoying.
Don, glad to hear it. I find with each of the guides that I have for the D300, I have learned something that made the purchase worth it. Glad you are pleased.
