The Nikon D300 Lounge

For Nikon D300 owners, fans and anybody who's interested in this camera

Can people please advise I am thinking of buying either the the sigma 10-20mm wideangle lense or the Sigma 12-24mm lense, not sure of the difference between the two, any help would be most welcome.

Which of the two is the better lense, I would want to use it for architectural / landscape type shots. My budget is approximately up to £450 or so, I want a wide angle primarily for my D300, but also would be used on my D70s, I simply want the best lense for my budget?

Thanks
Ron

I'm currently saving for the Sigma 12-24mm, both the 10-20 and the 12-24 seem to get favourable reviews, but I'm going for the 12-24mm simply because it's full frame compatible so can be used with a full frame sensor camera (D700) when I can afford one. The 10-20 is a "DX" format lens so can't be used with "FX" full frame sensors, the Nikon 12-24 is "DX" only too.

There's some reviews and info here

Hope this helps.

Andy.

I find my Tamron 12-24mm to be much sharper and has more "bite" than my brother-in-law's Sigma 12-24mm.

Having 10mm is nice though, and I'd have gone for the Sigma 10-20mm myself, except that quick tests in the camera shop showed the Tamron 12-24mm to be, again, sharper.

Thom Hogan seems to like his Sigma 10-20mm VERY much, and for architectural / landscape photography, I'd probably go for the 10-20mm over the 12-24mm myself.

Good luck!
