Nikon D300S DSLR Camera
After long speculations, Nikon have just announced their new Nikon D300S camera. A 12.3 megapixel DSLR that can record 720p movies at 24fps, the new D300S brings contrast-detect autofocus (while in Tripod mode) and offers an external mic input.
(July 30, 2009) – Today, Nikon announced the D300s digital SLR, combining professional-level performance with agility and enhanced D-Movie capabilities to deliver a new benchmark
for creative versatility.
Capture and Edit HD Movies in stereo
The D300S comprehensively extends DSLR HD movie capture by adding external stereo sound input, autofocus capability and premieres in-camera movie editing. External stereo microphone support adds more realistic sound to shooting movie clips, and a new dedicated LV button makes switching between stills and movies easier than ever. In-camera movie clips can be edited by simply selecting the start and stop points during playback. Also, the new Type C HDMI interface enables editing to be carried out on an HD display if desired.
Dual slot storage media
For the first time in this class, the D300S offers the choice of dual storage media standards; CF (Compact Flash™) and SD (Secure Digital™) with options to manage how the camera records data to them. For example, one can elect to store stills to one format and movie clips to another.

Sounds like a wizz-bang of a camera (D300S). Personally, I have never been a big video fan. Did the movie camera thing when our daughter was growing up but that was about it. My D300 will satisfy (and challenge) me for the foreseeable future. Although, there are some great new features other than video on the new S model, I'm sticking with my 300.
I just got a new D300s to replace my D50. I had never planned to do anything with the video option, but since it is available I might give it a try. The D300s is a real joy to use.

Rick, keep us posted on the functions and finished product with your new cam.. I had two acquaintances who purchased them and claimed they didn't like the new features much, and said the video was "worthless" one brought the cam back. The other isn't using it much
A great upgrade from a D50 but not from a D300. You will find the power and performance a bit intimidating to begin with Rick but once you the the basics down you will love the results. I have most of the early Nikon DSLR's and the D300 is by far the best in every respect. Enjoy.
